Frankie Meredith

Hello. Thanks for stopping by! I’m an award winning, published playwright and screenwriter from the midlands (the bit in-between London and The North, you know it?). I often write about my family and my mates, which they actually love. It can be funny, dark, a bit weird and sometimes has music with it but it is almost always set in the West Midlands – coz it’s a lot more than just Peaky Blinders.

I began writing when I got onto the Lyric Hammersmith Young Writers Program (RIP it was such a good course, bring it back). I then wrote my first full length play as part of Soho Theatre’s Writers Lab and put on a load of shorts over London and wrote whenever I could when I wasn’t waitressing for bigots, selling windows or wine on the phones, nannying the many darlings of SW London, litter picking (lol) or my particular favourite gathering emails dressed as a ‘Slutty Santa’ in Leicester Sq in the middle of October. Urgh. I only lasted that one shift. 

I’ve had commissions from PainesPlough and Warwick Arts Centre, my plays have toured the UK, come to the Belgrade in Cov, Vaults in London, Edinburgh and I toured my own show outdoors post-covid and my first short won Best Film at British Int Film Festival. I’m working on TV ideas and developing with some exciting companies. 

PainesPlough had me as their playwright fellow in 2019/2020 and I got to go to Barcelona and hear my play in Catalan, which was incredible, and also a bit strange coz I don’t speak Catalan but I could understand it, coz I wrote it. 

I’m currently working on a musical about fossils and care supported generously by ArtsCouncil and a midland set lesbian spy thriller. 

My plays have been Bruntwood longlisted, Offie Nominated and I have recently done the BBC writers scheme and a mentorship through channel4. I’ve been supported for new work recently by The RSC, Birmingham Hippodrome, Warwick Arts Centre, Warwick District Council and In Good Company.
